Meet Dr. Mary Shackelton

The Insulite System was created by Dr. Mary Shackelton following years of treating patients who are chronically overweight. She realized that there is a common underlying condition among most overweight patients, insulin resistance. Dr. Shackelton recognizes the emotional and physical pain that overweight people suffer when they find they cannot lose weight.

For many years, Dr. Shackelton studied the scientific literature on the biochemical and physiological reasons for weight gain. Through this research, she developed a full understanding of Insulin Resistance and how the abnormal response of insulin to glucose affects weight gain. She also discovered that there is currently no medically recognized diagnosis or treatment for Insulin Resistance.

From her research, Dr. Shackelton developed her six-element approach for weight loss: a nutritional plan, an exercise program, three extraordinary proprietary formulas and a support network. Together, she found this combination successfully reverses Insulin Resistance.

Dr. Shackelton received her Masters in Public Health (MPH) from San Diego State University and her Naturopathic Doctorate (ND) from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine. She also attended the Institute of Women’s Health and Integrative Medicine in Portland, Oregon. In 1998, Dr. Shackelton was the naturopath on staff for the First Disabled Ascent of Mt Everest. She conducted research at Everest Base Camp on the effects of herbs and homeopathic medicines on high altitude acute mountain sickness and published the study results in the Journal of Complementary Therapies.

Dr. Shackelton has broadcast on a live health radio show for four years where she has been able to reach thousands of people. At the same time, her work as a naturopathic doctor has allowed her to work one-on-one in a clinical setting, where she has successfully addressed her patients' Insulin Resistance and weight conditions.
